I read the news story [Nov. 25] about the Cook County Board of Review with a mixture of amusement and outrage. As a Cook County taxpayer, I thank you for publicizing the questionable business-as-usual proceedings at yet another of our government agencies.

That Board of Review staffers are so sloppy about the way in which they reward their cronies just reflects the arrogance with which these people execute their duties. Apparently no county ombudsman exists to review the shenanigans taking place at the board.

Shame on the board staffers who are part of this tomfoolery ? whether they're signing off on property tax assessment reductions or looking the other way! And shame on the taxpayers of Cook County for allowing public servants entrusted with the serious responsibility of setting fair assessments at the Board of Review to continue to reward themselves and their friends with tax cuts.

Let's start cleaning up this mess by voicing our disgust in the voting booths this coming March.
